WINTERS BANE Guitarist Makes Roots At University Of Akron As Computer Specialist
November 23, 2005Krysti Henderson of Buchtelite.com has issued the following report:
He's the guy who fixes on-campus computers and he's proud of his software skills. But he has a few other accomplishments. He has appeared on MTV shows "WWF Tough Enough" and "Making the Video". He has also made guest appearances on "CSI" and was in Nintendo commercials.
Paul Kolasky, PC software specialist at the University of Akron, doubles as a heavy metal singer and guitar player.
Kolasky became interested in playing music after he graduated from high school. He began taking guitar lessons and reading guitar books. Soon after, he fell in love with heavy metal.
In 1990, Kolasky was the only musician in the Akron area writing his own music. Most other bands played cover songs at the time. Terry Salem heard that Kolasky was writing his own music and offered his studio for recording. It was then that Kolasky started the original band, WINTERS BANE.
"If you want to listen to classic metal, you listen to WINTERS BANE," Kolasky said.
Kolasky is better known to WINTERS BANE fans as Lou St. Paul. With Salem as the band's first drummer, Kolasky as guitarist and songwriter, and former JUDAS PRIEST member Tim "Ripper" Owens as lead vocalist, WINTERS BANE produced its first CD in 1993.
Its first release was No. 1 for six weeks in Germany. The band's success overseas led to a contract agreement with Massacre Records and tours in the United States and Germany. While touring at home, Kolasky was not able to perform his original work. He decided to leave the band and take the name WINTERS BANE with him.
